At first glance, the new Tenways CGO 800 Plus looks familiar — after all, it is very similar to its sister model, the CGO 800S. This is no coincidence, as both are step-through e-bikes with a very similar design, which are also available in the same colors Midnight Black and Sky Blue.

New motor and derailleur gear system

However, if you take a closer look, a few differences become apparent that are quite something: For example, the new Pro model is the first Tenways (at least in Europe) to be equipped with derailleur gears! Compared to the single-speed drive of the CGO 800S without gears, this derailleur system from Shimano’s Claris series offers 8 gears, which should make riding uphill easier.

This does mean you have to do without the belt drive, but you do get the latest generation of the specially developed C9 hub motor: this is whisper-quiet and offers really good performance with 45 Nm of torque — as we were able to see for ourselves here in the test of the Tenways CGO 009 smart bike, where this motor was installed for the first time. We were also impressed by the natural riding feel of the motor, which is achieved by a high-quality torque sensor.

Furthermore, the bike’s battery can be removed for convenient charging and, at 475 Wh, offers a really decent capacity and therefore slightly more than the CGO 800S (this also has a new battery with the new model year, but it now has a capacity of 460 Wh). The e-drive is operated via a compact button on the handlebars, and the stem with flush-mounted integrated display familiar from its sister model is also fitted here. This looks just as modern as the slim rear light, which is integrated into the pannier rack.

Daily use equipment with new MIK system rear rack

This rack is also one of the highlights of the bike: for the first time, Tenways is using a MIK-compatible system rack. The popular click system makes it easy to attach a wide range of different pannier racks to the bike. This is the first time that Tenways has used a MIK-compatible system rack. With the popular click system, a wide variety of bags, boxes and baskets can be easily and securely attached — and just as easily removed again.

A front suspension from SR Suntour, hydraulic disc brakes, an integrated lighting system and puncture-proof tyres with a width of 48 mm round off the bike’s equipment.

All good things come in threes: the step-through e-bikes from Tenways

This new CGO 800 Plus adds a third model to Tenway’s line-up of step-through e-bikes:

• The well-known Tenways CGO 800 S also comes with a hub motor and suspension fork, but does without gears and is equipped with a belt drive instead of a bicycle chain. The battery capacity is a little bit lower at 460 Wh, but the bike is also slightly lighter at around 19 kg.
• The Tenways AGO T, on the other hand, is equipped with a powerful mid-motor and a continuously variable automatic transmission, which also uses a belt drive instead of a bicycle chain. A suspension fork can also be found here and the battery has a high capacity of 504 Wh. At over 30 kg, the bike may not be light, but it is still pleasant to ride — as we have already reported in detail in our test here.

However, the new model is not only positioned between these two bikes in terms of its equipment — the weight of the CGO 800 Plus is also in this range at around 24 kg.

A great e-bike for a low price

And in terms of price? In the past, Tenways e-bikes have already been able to boast an attractive price-performance ratio. No wonder that this also applies to the new CGO 800 Plus: at 1,899 euros, the price is convincing for a practical bike in this class that is suitable for everyday use, especially as it also scores highly with its clear design.
