Following last year’s Cargo One, the Tenways Longtail Duo is now the brand’s second cargo bike. While the first, with its large cargo box at the front, is a typical Long John bike, the new model belongs to the Longtail cargo bikes, where the load is primarily located behind the rider.

One advantage of these Longtail bikes is certainly that they can be moved very similarly to a normal bike—in contrast, the handling on a Long John bike is significantly more complex. The bikes with the long rear end can also be an advantage when transporting children: while the cargo box of a Long John bike will eventually run out of space for older children, the seat of such a Longtail bike usually offers greater reserves.

So it’s all the more exciting that Tenways is now also taking on this sector—after all, the manufacturer’s bikes have always scored with a very good value-for-money ratio!

Powerful motor, belt drive and stepless gearshift

A look at the components of the Tenways Longtail Duo immediately shows that no corners have been cut here! The bike is equipped with a powerful M410 mid-motor from Bafang, which offers a high torque of 80 Nm. Such reserves are particularly useful for cargo bikes, for example when starting uphill or when riding with a full load.

Speaking of weight: Tenways states the maximum permissible total weight (bike weight, passengers and luggage) for the Longtail Duo as 220 kg. The net weight (without accessories) of the bike itself is said to be 32 kg. Another positive aspect is that the luggage rack is said to be MIK HD-compatible—so accessories can be easily attached with a click.

But back to the drive: instead of a chain, a CDX belt drive from market leader Gates is used here, which then controls the continuously variable hub gear from Enviolo in the rear wheel. A largely low-maintenance combination that has proven itself in urban use in particular.

Another highlight is certainly the battery, which offers a comparatively high capacity of 720 Wh and should therefore enable distances of up to 100 km. However, it should be noted here that such figures are always very theoretical—how far you actually get depends heavily on factors such as your own performance, the distance or the total weight.

Safety and security are a top priority

Tenways also addresses safety and security with the Longtail Duo: the bike is equipped with a suspension fork at the front for riding safety, while the hydraulic 4-piston disc brakes from Tektro ensure safe deceleration.

For security against theft, on the other hand, a specially developed anti-theft function is used to deactivate the electric drive. GPS tracking is also available, which allows the bike to be located via smartphone and notifies you when movement is detected. Finally, there is also a classic frame lock on the rear wheel, which prevents the bike from being pushed away. The rear light can also be found there, which is equipped with a brake light function—because of course, a lighting system is also part of the bike!

Extensive equipment especially for families

The bike has well thought-out equipment that is specially tailored to the needs of families. A railing ensures that children can hold on securely during the ride. In addition, two padded seat cushions and footrests as well as a central double stand are included in the scope of delivery.

Rounding off the equipment package is a generous front carrier that offers space for bags, shopping or other luggage. The storage compartment between the seat tube and rear wheel should also prove practical in everyday use: Tenways has placed a storage box there, in which smaller items can be stored securely.

The one-size frame is designed to fit riders between 160 and 195 cm, and the individual riding position can be adjusted quickly and easily thanks to the adjustable stem and telescopic seat post—practical if several people are using the bike.
