After the previous models were always also available in dark colors, VanMoof surprised with the introduction of the new smart bike generation: since the launch, the new S5 and A5 were only available in one color scheme, a very light gray. This is now changing, because VanMoof now offers a second color variant in dark gray!

Of course, nothing changes in the technical specs. This means that the bike is available as the VanMoof S5, the larger version with a diamond frame and 27.5″ tires. This model should fit riders between 165 and 210 cm. The VanMoof A5, on the other hand, is the more compact bike, which should be suitable for a body height of 155 to 200 cm and rolls on 24″ small tires.

Both are powered by a hub motor in the front wheel, with a torque sensor in the bottom bracket as a new feature for this generation. The sensor is intended to provide much more natural support of the motor and also enable better shifting of the automatic gearbox. This is installed as a hub gear with three speeds in the rear wheel. The battery is firmly installed in the down tube of the bike and offers a capacity of 487 Wh or 463 Wh (S5/A5).

The smart features are typical for VanMoof: in addition to the mechanical lock, an alarm system is also integrated that informs owners via smartphone, and the bike can be located via Apple’s Find my network — as well as via the VanMoof app via GPS. Further settings for the bike can also be made in this app, and features such as navigation are available.

Pricing and availability

The new color Dark Gray can be ordered online now, with 2,998 euros the price is identical to the light colored variant of the VanMoof S5 and VanMoof A5 bikes. Currently, VanMoof quotes an availability within 8 weeks — so the new models should arrive just in time for the start of spring!
