Attractive commuter bikes with Fazua’s drive system: Canyon Commuter:ON

As already mentioned in the article about the new electric urban bikes from Canyon, here you can find more detailed information about the new Commuter:ON. This is an attractive urban bike, which shines with complete commuter equipment. Meaning: From mudguards, lights and rack to the bell, everything you need on an everyday bike is built in — except a kickstand.

The compact mid-motor from Fazua is used as drive. Although this is not one of the most powerful motors with 60 Nm of torque, it should certainly provide enough power for use in urban areas — especially since the entire commuter bike is also quite light at 17.6 kg. The drive is controlled by a touch control on the top of the down tube, which also informs about the battery status. There is no conventional display on the handlebars — which is another reason why the Commuter:ON looks almost like a conventional bike without e-drive.

The integrated battery has a capacity of 250 Wh, which according to Canyon should be sufficient for a range of about 75 km. The battery can be removed for charging. For many people this is surely one of the most important features, because in the city you don’t always want to or can’t carry your bike into your apartment.

The special design of the Fazua drive is also worth mentioning: Not only the battery can be removed from the bike, but also the whole motor! This allows the bike to be ridden without the motor (for example, if you want to do some training), which makes the Commuter:ON 3.3 kg lighter. However, the opening in the frame must then be closed by a 490 g cover (optionally available from Fazua).

As shifting system the new Shimano XT series with 12 gears is used, the cassette offers a huge spread of 10 to 51 teeth. So even steep mountain climbs should not be a real problem. The almost standard hydraulic disc brakes MT200 from Shimano are used as brakes and the tires are from Schwalbe. The 40 mm wide G-One Allround tires should be comfortable to ride with low air pressure as they are pleasantly wide.

For the cockpit Canyon has come up with a clever solution: Here the handlebars and stem form one unit which is opened in the middle of the front. All cables are routed into the frame at this point, which ensures a clean look and high protection — so the cables are better protected against vandalism or parking accidents, for example. And for the most perfect ergonomics, the cockpit can also be adjusted in height by 10 mm.

The mudguards from Wingee are complete with a rack, which can carry up to 15 kg. The lighting system consists of a Lightskin “Ultra Mini” front light, which seems to be quite new; the rear light on the mudguard is an old acquaintance and comes from Supernova.

In addition to a classic diamond frame in four sizes (S to XL) and the two colors Champagne and Dark Navy, the Commuter:ON is also available with a trapezoid frame for easy entry. In addition to the Champagne color, the Commuter:ON is also available in the attractive Cherry, with sizes ranging from XS. S and M sizes. The price for all variants is 3,299 Euro, but patience is required: the Commuter:ON will not be delivered until spring 2021.

All further information about the new Commuter:ON can be found on the Canyon website.

  1. L’article porte sur les nouveaux modèles de Canyon. Il semble qu’Orbea aura également de nouveaux e-bikes. De plus amples informations seront disponibles en octobre [traduction automatisée].
