A facelift for the start of production: Urwahns E-Bike Platzhirsch gets even better

Already in February we showed here the Platzhirsch, the first electric offshoot of Urwahn Bikes. The highlight of the bike is certainly the unique frame, which does not need a seat tube and is produced using 3D printing. In combination with the (relatively yielding) frame material steel, this results in a frame design with elastic structures, which is supposed to compensate road bumps slightly and provide a more comfortable riding experience.

The Mahle X35+ System — also known as Ebikemotion — is used as the electric drive. This means that the motor is located in the rear wheel in the form of a hub motor, the fixed battery with 250 Wh is largely invisible and is installed in the down tube. The motor is combined with a single speed drive and the Gates belt drive, alternatively a model with 1×11 speed derailleur from Shimano’s XT series is available. Worth mentioning is also the integrated light system from Lightskin, where headlights and taillights are installed in the handlebars or seat post. In addition, a smartphone holder for the SP Connect system is integrated on the stem, allowing the app of the Ebikemotion drive to be used safely via smartphone while riding.

Already at the beginning of the year they called an availability in the middle of the year — and Urwahn used this period well to give the top dog a facelift. Many sensible solutions that make the bike even more attractive:

  • Facelift frame design: All surfaces were reworked in favor of an organic overall appearance with striking character lines.
  • Dropping top tube: For better ergonomics the top tube now falls slightly towards the seat tube. This geometry favors the overhang height positively, from which especially smaller persons will benefit.
  • iWoc button: The central iWoc One control on the top tube was removed for aesthetics and ergonomics and replaced by the iWoc Trio thumb shifter on the handlebars. This also means that you no longer need to reach around to switch between riding modes, as your hands can remain firmly enclosed on the handlebars. Better function and a tidier look — a wise decision, which so far can only be seen at the Platzhirsch!
  • Kickstand: At the end of the year, a specially developed and integrated kickstand will be available. All Platzhirsch models have tapped holes on the inside of the left dropout to mount the stand, which makes it very easy to retrofit.

Since the first delivery of the Platzhirsch is still to come, all previous pre-orderers can also enjoy the facelift. Those who are new to the innovative bike, on the other hand, can choose between five predefined frame colors or the surcharged options of nickel or copper plating as well as a RAL desired color. In addition, the bike can be equipped with extras such as mudguards, front and rear racks directly with the order. Individuality is therefore also a priority here!

In terms of price the Platzhirsch starts at 4,499 euro, all configuration options can be discovered directly on the website of Urwahnbikes.
