Another e-bike with Mahles Ebikemotion drive — the almost invisible system, consisting of a hub motor in the rear wheel, a fixed battery in the down tube (which can be replaced in case of service) and a minimalist operating concept including app connection. Thanks to manufacturers such as Orbea, Desiknio, Cannondale and Schindelhauer, the still young system is steadily gaining popularity, and with Urwahns Platzhirsch, there is now another alternative that can offer unique features!

The specifications of motor and battery are set by Ebikemotion: The hub drive delivers up to 40 Nm of torque at the typical 250 Watt, the battery offers a capacity of around 250 Wh and can be optionally extended with a 208 Wh range extender. The range then increases from about 80 km to 140 km. Instead of a conventional bicycle chain, Urwahn Bikes combines the single-speed drive with a clean and largely maintenance-free belt drive from Gates.

But Urwahn’s Platzhirsch is really innovative when it comes to the frame: It is based on the well-known Stadtfuchs model and, like the latter, does not need a saddle tube. In combination with the (relatively flexible) frame material steel, this results in a frame design with elastic structures. This special geometry allows for slight compensation of road bumps, which should generate a more comfortable riding experience.
Also known from the Stadtfuchs is the integration of the lighting system, which has been newly solved for Platzhirsch: The front light is integrated into the handlebar-stem-unit, the rear light in the seat post — both components come from Lightskin and are powered by the e-bike battery.

Despite its minimalist look, Urwahns Platzhirsch can also be transformed into a commuter bike suitable for everyday use: The necessary mounting points for mudguards and carrier are provided on the frame and thus offer enough flexibility for your own equipment wishes. And the Platzhirsch is also very versatile when it comes to colors: Currently, there is a choice of five different shades (asphalt black, concrete grey, oxide red, golden yellow and cobalt blue)
