Canyon is giving its popular Pathlite:ON SUV e-bike series a comprehensive update – and the focus is on the fifth-generation Bosch Performance Line CX motor. As we reported here, the powerful drive will even receive a free software update in July that will increase the torque to 100 Nm – at no extra cost!
But it’s not just the motor that’s new: thanks to lighter batteries, the entire electrical system has been integrated much more elegantly. Particularly striking is the slimmer look compared to the previous model, which we had criticised at the time for its somewhat clunky design. Another practical improvement: the battery can now be removed from the down tube in the traditional way – easier and more intuitive than before. Despite its higher battery capacity and more extensive features, the new top model, the Pathlite:ON 9 SUV, is even lighter than its predecessor.

The Pathlite:ON SUV in three variants
Regardless of the selected variant, all three bikes offer comprehensive everyday and touring capabilities. These include robust mudguards, a sturdy luggage rack with a load capacity of up to 27 kg and MIK HD interface, bright lighting systems and a suspended and dropper seat post for greater comfort when riding off-road.
The bikes roll on 27.5-inch wheels with 57 mm wide, puncture-proof Maxxis Crossmark II tyres with reflective strips and feature a high-quality aluminium frame with internally routed cables. Practical: the stem is height-adjustable and offers a smartphone mount for the SP Connect system.

- Canyon Pathlite:ON 8 SUV: With the PowerTube 800 Wh battery and an SR Suntour XCR34 air suspension fork, also with 120 mm travel. It features Shimano XT 12-speed gears and powerful Magura MT Thirty 4-piston brakes. Weight: 26.96 kg
- Canyon Pathlite:ON 9 SUV: High-end model with PowerTube 800 Wh battery and FOX Float 34 AWL air suspension fork with 120 mm travel. Electronic TRP Bosch E-Shifting derailleur with 12 gears. Magura MT-C 4-piston brakes with ABS system. Weight: 27.3 kg

Automatic transmission and ABS: focus on the top model
The new Pathlite:ON 9 SUV goes one step further than the other models in the series and features the automatic TRP Bosch E-Shifting derailleur. This is sensor-controlled and automatically adjusts the gear selection to the cadence, pedal pressure and terrain profile. The gear changes take place without manual intervention and with virtually no delay. This ensures a smoother ride, especially on changing terrain or in stop-and-go traffic, and reduces the need to shift gears yourself. We were able to test the system briefly here at the launch of the Performance Line CX (Gen5) and were impressed – read more about it here.

In addition, the Pathlite:ON 9 SUV has another safety feature: the latest generation of Bosch eBike ABS. It prevents the front wheel from locking up when braking, especially on loose surfaces or in wet conditions. In critical situations, it can help you maintain control of the bike and significantly reduce the risk of falls or rollovers. This is a real bonus, especially given the relatively high weight of SUV e-bikes with luggage or child seats, as it increases both comfort and safety.
Conclusion
Canyon has given the Pathlite:ON SUV series a welcome update: it is now much sleeker in appearance, lighter and has a modern, powerful drive system. Technically demanding riders will also get their money’s worth with the top model. The Pathlite:ON 7 SUV starts at a pleasingly affordable price of 2,999 euros, while the Pathlite:ON 8 SUV is available for 3,799 euros. The Pathlite:ON 9 SUV with maximum equipment, on the other hand, costs 5,999 euros. All models are available in two frame shapes – with a high top tube or as a low-step comfort frame – and in up to four sizes (S to XL) in the colours Stealth Black, Chalk and Tundra Green.
Also still available is the Pathlite:ONfly series, which is significantly lighter and sportier thanks to the Bosch Performance Line SX drive – as we already reported here in our review of the Canyon Pathlite:ON SL 6 (2024).
