Having recently and consistently expanded its range of urban e-bikes – for example, with the new Carpe or the belt-drive version of the Kemen – the Spanish manufacturer is now deliberately taking a different approach. With its new Vector, Orbea is introducing a modern urban bike without electric assistance. It is aimed at anyone who wants to rely on muscle power in their everyday life, but does not want to compromise on modern technology, a high level of comfort and clever everyday solutions.
Vector is designed for everyday journeys around town – whether to work, university or the shops. Rather than maximum speed, the focus is on manoeuvrability, comfort and practicality. After all, everyday city life isn’t just about perfectly tarmacked cycle paths, but also cobblestones, kerbs, roadworks and short stretches of gravel.

Comfort despite the rigid frame
At the heart of the Vector is the aluminium frame featuring Orbea’s Twin Glide frame technology. A striking feature here is the seat tube, which extends well upwards and is specifically designed to allow for a degree of flex. Whilst this concept does not replace a traditional suspension system, it should help to smooth out minor bumps and thus ensure a more comfortable ride. Orbea has already successfully applied a similar approach to the Diem, which we previously reviewed here.
In addition, the developers have opted for compact 27.5-inch wheels with tyres up to 50 millimetres wide. This combination promises a good balance of manoeuvrability, comfort and safe handling – particularly in heavy city traffic.

Clever ideas for small spaces
The design is particularly well thought out when it comes to everyday practicality. Anyone who needs to store their bike in a small flat, in the cellar or at the office can fit the Vector with optional folding pedals and a swivelling stem. This significantly reduces the space required in a matter of seconds.
The bike also proves versatile when it comes to transport. An optional front luggage rack is available, which can carry up to ten kilograms. Thanks to its secure attachment to the frame, this should not adversely affect handling. In addition, Orbea offers a rear luggage rack which is designed, amongst other things, for child seats with MIK HD mounts and is also compatible with numerous popular luggage systems such as MIK, MIK Side and Ortlieb QL3.1. For smartphone navigation, an SP-Connect mount is also available, which secures the mobile phone to the stem, keeping it safe and within easy reach.

Three styles for different tastes
The Vector is available in three trim levels:
- Orbea Vector 25: Shimano CUES 9-speed derailleur, 50 mm wide tyres – sporty and minimalist spec. No mudguards, no lights, but fitted with a front luggage rack as standard.
- Orbea Vector 20: Shimano CUES derailleur with 9 speeds, 45 mm wide tyres. Also features mudguards, a hub dynamo, lights and a rear luggage rack, making it a fully-fledged commuter bike. Front luggage rack available as an option.
- Orbea Vector 10: Shimano Nexus 7-speed hub gear system, Gates belt drive, 45 mm wide tyres and, like the Vector 20, a comprehensive range of everyday features for particularly low-maintenance use. Front luggage rack available as an option.
All three models can also be fitted with a folding stem, folding pedals and a frame lock as optional extras.

Practical frame design and attractive prices
A common feature of all models is the modern unisex frame design with its low step-through. This not only makes it easier to get on and off the bike in city traffic, but is also a real benefit when the luggage rack is loaded or a child seat is fitted. The Vector is available in frame sizes S to XL and in three colours: Royal Plum Matt, Frozen Concrete Matt and Fuel Gloss.
Prices for the bikes start at 999 euros for the sporty, minimalist Vector 25. The Vector 20, equipped for everyday use, costs 1,249 euros, whilst the top-of-the-range Vector 10, featuring a belt drive and in-hub gears, is priced at 1,399 euros. Given the ongoing e-bike boom, it is encouraging to see that Orbea continues to consistently develop its classic bikes. With the new Vector, Orbea is launching a well-designed urban bike that convincingly combines modern technology, practical everyday features and attractive prices.
