Focus on everyday urban life: the Orbea Kemen Tour now features continuously variable transmission and a belt drive

With the Kemen, Orbea has for some time now had an attractive all-round e-bike in its range, designed to cater to different uses depending on the model. Whilst the Kemen Adventure, with its deep-tread tyres and stronger off-road focus, is aimed more at touring cyclists who also want to venture off the beaten track, the Kemen Tour is more clearly positioned for everyday urban use and on tarmac routes.

Until now, Orbea has relied exclusively on traditional derailleur gears for all its Kemen models. But that is about to change with the new Kemen Tour 10, which is available for the first time with a hub gear system and a belt drive. This combination offers a number of practical advantages, particularly in urban traffic: the belt drive is exceptionally quiet, requires virtually no maintenance and needs no lubrication, meaning oil-stained trouser legs or dirty hands are practically a thing of the past. The hub gear system is also considered robust and convenient for everyday use, as gear changes remain possible even when stationary.

Orbea has equipped this model with the Enviolo continuously variable hub gear system, which is driven by a Gates CDXbelt. For electric assistance, it continues to use Shimano’s EP6 mid-drive motor, which delivers 85 Newton-metres of torque. The battery, which is integrated into the slim down tube, has a capacity of 630 watt-hours.

When it comes to ride comfort, too, the bike is clearly designed for everyday use: it is fitted with 50-millimetre-wide Schwalbe Marathon tyres and an SR Suntour Mobie34 air suspension fork with 80 millimetres of travel. Braking is provided by Magura AT2 hydraulic disc brakes.

It also comes with a comprehensive range of features. In addition to mudguards and a lighting system, the bike is equipped with a dropper seatpost. The MIK-compatible luggage rack is also practical, whilst the lighting is integrated particularly cleanly: the rear light sits flush with the mudguard, a position light has been placed in the stem and the Supernova Starstream Pro headlight with high beam is integrated directly into the handlebars. Also included are an SP Connect mount for smartphones and a USB-C charging port on the stem.

In addition, Orbea offers a wide range of customisation options. Optional extras include a front luggage rack, a larger MIK HD luggage rack designed to accommodate a child seat, handlebars of various heights, and an additional Range Extender battery with a capacity of 252 watt-hours for greater range.

The new Orbea Kemen Tour 10 starts at 4,599 euros and is available in Ivory White, Diamond Black and Spaceship Green. In addition to the classic version with a high top tube, the model is also available as the Kemen MID, featuring a lower-slung trapezoidal frame and a more comfortable step-through. Those who still prefer a derailleur system will find this option in the Kemen Tour 20 and Kemen Tour 30 models, which are available from 3,099 euros. Further information on the various models and specification options can be found directly on the Orbea website.
