New ebikes with Fazua drive

Fast ebikes for sporty rides: the new Canyon Roadlite:ON range

In addition to the everyday e-bikes from the Commuter:ON and Precede:ON series, Canyon has now also updated the sporty and lightweight Roadlite:ON bikes. To reduce weight, everyday equipment is dispensed with, more lightweight components are used and the seating position is designed more sporty. Ideal bikes so for the fitness round after work!

With the new 2023er line-up Canyon also completes the full transition to the new Ride 60 drive system from Fazua. Thanks to the low total weight of only 4.26 kg, this is made for lightweight e-bikes and can still come up with decent performance: the compact mid-motor offers a torque of 60 Nm and has here a removable battery with 430 Wh capacity. By dispensing with a typical display, the e-drive, which is barely visible anyway, is integrated even more inconspicuously into the bike; only a thumb button on the handlebars with LED display indicates the Fazua motor, and there is also a USB-C socket – for charging a smartphone, for example. The smartphone can be attached to the handlebars as an option where Fazua’s app displays various information about the ride and offers additional setting options for the motor’s three assist modes.

These are the new and electric fitness bikes from Canyon

In addition to two lower-priced models with aluminum frames, Canyon now also offers a new high-end model with a carbon frame — which is thus naturally also the lightest of the three bikes.

But let’s first take a look at the Roadlite:ON 7 and Roadlite:ON 5 with aluminum frames: Both models come with a handlebar-stem unit in which the cables and lines are laid conventionally open. In the center of the stem, an adapter from SP Connect can be attached for the smartphone. The braking system with hydraulic disc brakes comes from Shimano from the MT200 series and the Schwalbe G-One Allround tires are each 40 mm wide.

  • Canyon Roadlite:ON 7, 12 speed derailleur Shimano XT, carbon seatpost, 16 kg weight, 3,399 euros.
  • Canyon Roadlite:ON 5, 11 speed derailleur Shimano Deore, 16.3 kg weight, 2,899 euros

Differences between the two models can be found in the shifting and the seatpost: the Roadlite:ON 7 has a Shimano Deore XT derailleur with 12 speeds, while the Roadlite:ON 5 has a cheaper model from the Shimano Deore series with 11 speeds. The cassette offers a range of 10-51 teeth on both bikes. And while the Roadlite 5 must be content with a standard aluminum seatpost, the Roadlite 7 is equipped with Canyons specially developed carbon post with 20 mm travel. Additionally, this one is also 300 grams lighter and should bring exactly 16 kg on the scale.

The retail price for the new Roadlite:ON 7 in Light Grey is € 3,399, which is € 500 more expensive than the Roadlite:ON 5 in Shadow Grey for €2,899. Both models are available in four sizes from S to XL.

Lightweight with integrated lighting system: the Canyon Roadlite:ON CF 9 LTD

With the Roadlite:ON CF 9 LTD, Canyon’s Roadlite:ON series also gets a new top model that promises a combination of maximum speed and high everyday comfort. It comes with a completely new frame made of lightweight carbon, which should bring the total weight of the bike to a low 14.45 kg. Of note, in addition to the carbon aero seatpost, are the handlebar-stem unit made of the same material, which also integrates a LightSKIN Ultra Mini headlight. The rear light TL3 PRO from Supernova is mounted under the saddle and offers a brake light function. For the Roadlite series, such an integrated light system is a novelty!

  • Canyon Roadlite:ON CF 9 LTD, 12-speed derailleur SRAM Eagle AXS, carbon frame and seatpost, light system, 14.45 kg weight, 4,999 euros

The cables on the Roadlite:ON CF 9 LTD are completely routed inside the bike, as are the brake lines. Therefore, Canyon relies on the Magura MCi system for the disc brakes, in which the hydraulic unit is already installed in the handlebar itself. Also wireless here is the electronic SRAM EAGLE AXS 12-speed shifting with an impressive range of 510%, with which the bike should be well equipped for steep climbs. Also used here are 40 mm wide Schwalbe G-One Allround tires.

The retail price for the new Roadlite:ON CF 9 LTD is 4,999 euros, the bike is available in four sizes from S to XL and in the color Storm Grey.

Optionally, by the way, all new Roadlite:ON bikes can still be retrofitted with Curana mudguards and are even approved for use with a bicycle trailer (but not with a child seat).

Conclusion

The spread of Fazuas new and lightweight drive system is gaining momentum and Canyon shows especially with the new Roadlite:ON bikes, what a wide range can be covered with it: So they offer with the new Roadlite:ON 5 a very attractively priced bike for a reasonable 2,899 euros, which will certainly appeal to many beginners. At the other end of the scale is then positioned the almost 5,000 euros expensive Roadlite:ON CF 9 LTD, which combines state-of-the-art technology with a unique design!
