The Editor has been an integral part of the Cube line-up for years — an urban bike equipped with a maintenance-free drivetrain with hub gears and belt drive, but with a sporty look and light weight. A special combination that rarely exists! With the Editor Hybrid, Cube is now launching an electrified version of the bike for the first time — although there are even three new models!

What they all have in common is the electric drive system, which is the new Performance Line SX from Bosch. Hardly surprising, as this system consisting of a 55 Nm mid-motor and a compact battery with a capacity of 400 Wh is particularly light — after all, the electric Editor bikes are also designed for sportiness and light weight.

The lightest model weighs just 17.2 kg, which is probably also due to the permanently installed battery, which cannot be removed for easy charging. The E-drive is completed by its controls, consisting of the System Controller in the top tube and the Mini Remote on the handlebars. The bikes do without a display in favor of their clean look.

Hub gears or derailleur gears? Both options are available with the new Editor Hybrid

The Editor Hybrid also remains true to itself when it comes to the gears — there are two models that are equipped with maintenance-free and weatherproof hub gears:

• The Cube Editor Hybrid SLT 400X is the top model, equipped with Shimano’s Alfine hub gears and 11 gears. Transmission is via a Gates belt drive instead of a conventional bicycle chain. The tires are Marathon Efficiency from Schwalbe with a width of 50 mm, while the hydraulic disc brakes are from Shimano’s new Cues series. The weight is 17.7 kg and the price is 3,299 euros

• The Cube Editor Hybrid SLX 400X comes with Shimano’s Alfine hub gears and 8 gears in favor of a lower price. Here, the power is transmitted via a conventional bicycle chain. The tires are Contact Urban from Continental with a width of 50 mm, the hydraulic disc brakes are also from Shimano, type MT200. The weight is 17.8 kg and the price is 2,699 euros

A novelty for the Editor, on the other hand, is the derailleur system, with which the third model in the line-up is equipped:

• The Cube Editor Hybrid Pro 400X comes with Shimano’s Cues derailleur system from the 6000 series with 10 gears. The tires are also Continental’s Contact Urban with 50 mm width and the hydraulic disc brakes are Shimano MT200. The weight is 17.2 kg and the price is 2,499 euros

FE for Fully Equipped: Commuter equipment on the Editor Hybrid

The latter two models, the Hybrid SLX 400X and the Editor Hybrid Pro 400X, are also available as FE models. This transforms them into fully-fledged commuter bikes with mudguards, lighting set, pannier rack and practical kickstand. In keeping with the tidy look of the bike, the rear rack is also visually restrained, but can accommodate two panniers. The lighting is powered by the bike’s main battery and consists of the PRO-E 110 headlight from Cube’s own brand Acid, which also supplies the rear light integrated into the mudguard.

• The Cube Editor Hybrid SLX FE 400X weighs 18.6 kg with the aforementioned commuter equipment and costs 2,899 euros
• The Cube Editor Hybrid Pro FE 400X weighs 19.2 kg with the aforementioned commuter equipment and costs 2,699 euros

Why the top model, the Editor Hybrid SLT 400X with belt drive, is not available as an FE version, only Cube knows. Nevertheless, mudguards and pannier rack can be retrofitted without any problems — but you still have to do without the permanently installed lighting system.

All of the new bikes are available in the color shown and in four frame sizes, with only the frame shape with a high top tube — another typical Editor characteristic.
