Pedals with built-in lights are by no means a novelty anymore. Models such as the Arclight from Redshift or the previous Geo Vision pedals from Look have already demonstrated that lighting can be integrated effectively directly into the pedal. With the new Geo City Vision 360, however, Look is now taking things a step further – and is making an interesting contribution, particularly when it comes to visibility.
Dynamic lighting instead of static lighting
What makes the new pedal special is the wraparound light unit that extends across all three outer sides. Whilst many similar systems are mainly visible from the front and rear, the Geo City Vision 360 is designed to be much more noticeable from the sides as well. This makes perfect sense, particularly in everyday urban life. After all, many critical situations arise not so much on straight stretches of road as at junctions, intersections or in the blind spots of other road users.

Added to this is an effect that traditional bicycle lights can only offer to a limited extent: the movement of the pedals creates a dynamic light signal that is noticed more quickly than a static, steady light. Look makes use of precisely this approach, positioning the lights where the rider’s movement is constantly visible anyway.
The operation is also very practical. If the pedal is not moved for more than 30 seconds, the system automatically switches to standby mode. As soon as the bike is used again, the light switches back on automatically. A button on the axle can also be used to select from four different lighting or flashing modes, or to switch the light off completely.
Practical everyday use meets an attractive price
To charge it, simply remove the light unit from the pedal – it attaches magnetically. Charging is then carried out via the widely used USB-C port; according to Look, a full charge takes around three hours. However, the stated battery life of up to three weeks remains somewhat vague, as the manufacturer merely refers to “normal use in the city”. How long the system actually lasts is therefore likely to depend heavily on individual usage patterns and the selected lighting mode.

Nevertheless, the pedals are designed to be suitable for everyday use. The light elements are IPX7-rated for water resistance and are even said to withstand brief submersion. At the same time, Look promises a stable platform with sufficient grip for a wide variety of shoes – regardless of whether the bike is used for everyday travel, commuting to work or in bad weather.
The price is also worth noting: at €79.90, Look has positioned the Geo City Vision 360 at a significantly lower price point than many of the pedal models with integrated lighting currently available. This, in particular, could make the concept appealing to a wider audience – after all, improved visibility in urban traffic remains an area where even small improvements can make a noticeable difference!
