Less than 10 kg thanks to titanium and carbon

Brompton is updating its P Line: Sporty folding bike with lightweight components

With lots of new products and its 50th anniversary, last year was a particularly eventful one for Brompton. Among the highlights was the revamped C Line, which, as the classic among Brompton models, has undergone numerous improvements to its details. Now the sportier and lighter P Line is also being updated – with an even greater focus on modern materials to reduce weight.

The new P Line is now around 2 kg lighter than the original C Line, with the 4-speed version weighing just under 10 kg; the 12-speed model weighs only slightly more at 10.77 kg.

A new blend of materials for a lightweight design

Whilst the C Line consistently uses steel for its components, Brompton has taken a different approach with the new P Line: the rear triangle is made from lighter titanium, whilst the front fork is constructed from carbon. We are already familiar with this concept from the Electric P Line, which was unveiled at the end of last year. This combination of different materials is primarily intended to save weight and improve handling, but it also creates a more harmonious look at the front – the wider carbon fork simply looks better with the now slightly thicker head tube.

In addition, further details have been modified, which are intended to be particularly noticeable in the riding experience. The carbon fork is designed to dampen vibrations more effectively, whilst wider aluminium handlebars and a modified tube design are intended to provide greater control in urban traffic. These are complemented by ergonomically shaped grips and a Superlight saddle with a carbon base and integrated carrying handle.

Suitable for everyday use despite its lightweight design

The folding mechanism and drivetrain have also been redesigned for the new P Line: self-adjusting hinge clamps allow the bike to be folded even more quickly, whilst a newly developed aluminium crank arm with shorter 160 mm arms optimises power transfer. A 54t narrow-wide chainring is designed to keep the chain securely in place even on bumpy roads, complemented by a super-light quick-release pedal system made from CNC-machined aluminium with a removable left pedal for an even more compact folded size.

It is worth noting that, despite its focus on weight reduction, Brompton continues to place great emphasis on everyday practicality – for example, through integrated mounting points for bags or lights. The new P Line is also compatible with the RollerFrame luggage rack. At its core, therefore, the P Line remains true to what has defined a Brompton for decades: a particularly compact folding bike for everyday urban life. Within seconds, the bike can be folded down to a small size, rolled or carried, making it easy to take on the train, into the office or into your home. Particularly when combined with the reduced weight, this is likely to be the decisive advantage for many commuters.

Two versions in seven colours

With the new P Line, Brompton is continuing its drive towards modernisation: whilst the C Line continues to embody the brand’s classic character, the P Line is aimed more at cyclists looking for a lighter and sportier folding bike – and offers an attractively priced alternative to the even lighter T Line, which is made of titanium.

The new P Line is available in a total of seven different colour options. In terms of drivetrains, Brompton offers both a four-speed version and a model with a 12-speed gear system, each available with three different handlebar options (Low, Mid and High), with prices starting from 2,949 euros. Further information on all models is available here on the Brompton website.
