The Stadtfuchs (german for City Fox) from Urwahn Bikes is still a pretty unique e-bike that stands out from the crowd, especially thanks to its iconic frame shape. No wonder we have already tested the bike in detail here.
Where the seat tube usually leads down to the bottom bracket, there is a void on the Urwahn frame — because this seat tube is routed directly into the rear triangle at the very top and this design promises a certain flex, which should increase riding comfort.
The choice of material is just as unusual, as steel is rarely found on e-bikes these days — even though it is more resource-friendly and easier to recycle than aluminium or even carbon. For the special frame shape, Urwahn Bikes also utilise the possibilities of modern 3D printing to produce individual frame parts.
The first version of the Stadtfuchs already boasted all these features — but now, as Stadtfuchs 2.0, the bike has been given numerous updates that make it even more attractive!
The bike is now available for the first time with the Pinion gearbox, which is installed here in the electric Smart.Shift version with 9 or 12 gears. In combination with the belt drive and Mahles compact hub motor, this is a perfect combination. There is also an innovation in the electric drive itself, as the lightweight X20 system from Mahle is now being used here — previously the older and heavier X35 version was used.
The performance data of the drive is now 250 watts and 55 Nm torque on the motor as well as a battery with 236 Wh, which is permanently installed in the down tube. The system can be optionally supplemented with Mahles Range Extender and its 171 Wh.
The geometry of the frame itself has been adjusted slightly to offer a more comfortable ride. This also applies to the tyre width, which now has a maximum of 47 mm. In addition to the Pinion gearbox, the frame is also compatible with other drive systems: the bike can also be configured as a singlespeed or with derailleur gears — the frame is identical in each case and is only fitted with a adapter at the bottom bracket. And thanks to further optimisations, the weight of the frame has also been reduced by 30%. Overall, the bike should then weigh between 11.5 and 15.5 kg, depending on the equipment.
The electric drive is controlled solely via the controller on the top tube, which gives the cockpit with the LightSkin handlebars and integrated headlight a very tidy appearance. To match the front light, the rear light also comes from LightSkin and is integrated into the seat post. The new mudguards, which offer a slim mount on the rear wheel for transporting up to two panniers, each weighing up to 7.5 kg, are also worth highlighting.
The new Stadtfuchs 2.0 is available in three frame sizes and eight predefined colours, but the bike is also available in the colour of your choice for an additional charge. By the way, those who like it classic will also get their money’s worth: the Stadtfuchs is also available without an electric drive! Prices here start at 3,499 euros, whereas the electric Stadtfuchs costs at least 4,998 euros. With Pinion’s SmartShift gearbox, the price is then 5,747 euros (with 9 gears) or 5,997 euros (with 12 gears). Here, too, the bike shows its exclusive side ????
