Tenways already caused a stir with its first model, the CGO 600: the single-speed e-bike with belt drive offers amazing quality at an extremely fair price (which we were able to see for ourselves here in our review). The Dutch-based brand now wants to build on this success with its first smart bike – and is doing more than just turning the number “600” in its name on its head! The new Tenways CGO 009 offers innovative features such as GPS tracking, extensive app connectivity and a completely new motor.
The design of the bike follows the current trend among smart bikes towards an upright and comfortable riding position. The typical Tenways headlight is integrated into the frame, but the integration of a rear light on the seat tube is new for Tenways. While the headlight also complies with german StVZO requirements, this unfortunately does not apply to the rear light. Perhaps this is why the CGO 009 comes with a separate rear light, which is mounted on the mudguard. Incidentally, these mudguards are part of the bike’s standard equipment, as are the rear rack and kickstand.
With a width of 50 mm, the bike’s tires offer a high volume, which, with moderate air pressure, ensures good cushioning on uneven surfaces. However, together with the extensive equipment, it also contributes to the relatively high total weight of the bike of around 23 kg.
The electric single speed drive with the Gates belt drive is new and yet also familiar: the CGO600 and its Pro model are already familiar with the control of the motor, which is also controlled via a torque sensor and thus enables a particularly natural riding experience. The CGO009 also features a removable battery with a capacity of 374 Wh. The hub motor in the rear wheel, on the other hand, is completely new, now for the first time coming from Tenways itself and bearing the name C9. Compared to the previously used Mivice motor, its torque of 45 Nm is slightly higher, while its operation is even quieter. The operation of the drive on the handlebars is also new: instead of the compact display on the predecessor, there are now two round elements with which the three speed levels can be selected and the new boost mode can be activated — with this, the drive delivers full power at the push of a button!
The CGO 009 becomes a smart bike thanks to its smart features, for which the Smart Module is installed in the top tube of the frame. Among other things, this enables the bike to be located via GPS. This means that you can see where the bike is currently located at any time in the Tenways app. The app also notifies you about movements on the bike if it is parked and a “safety zone” can be defined; if the bike moves beyond this zone, a push notification is sent to the smartphone via the app. Navigation can also be used via the app, but unfortunately Tenways has not integrated a corresponding smartphone mount on the handlebars.
While the predecessor bikes CGO 600 and CGO 600 Pro are each available in several frame sizes, the new CGO 009 starts off with just one frame size, which corresponds approximately to a size L. Although the stem/handlebar unit cannot be adjusted, the seat post is a standardized size and can also be replaced with a suspension model if necessary.
In line with its equipment, the price is also slightly higher than the previous bikes in the CGO model range: the new Tenways CGO 009 costs 2,399 euros in the online store, which also includes delivery to your home. Interested parties can choose between the colors Midnight Black, Ice Blue and the stylish Olive Green! And for the first 100 orders, there is also a discount of 100 euros.
