Five new e-bikes

The sleek e-bikes from Schindelhauer are now available with Mahle’s X20 drive system

Berlin-based Schindelhauer has had its Arthur and Antonia e-bikes in its range since 2020, followed a year later by the Emilia and Emil duo. What they all have in common is their slim silhouette, which is largely made possible by the largely invisible e-drive from Mahle. The system, called X35, consists of a compact hub motor in the rear wheel and a 250 Wh battery, which is permanently installed in the down tube. Although the newer Mahle X20 is also based on the same design, it has been further improved in all respects and is therefore slightly lighter, slightly more powerful and equipped with modern controls. It is therefore all the more pleasing that Schindelhauer is now also offering this X20 system in the aforementioned e-bikes!

Modern drive system, proven equipment

While the battery continues to offer a capacity of around 250 Wh, the motor with its 55 Nm torque (Mahles’ comparative value for mid-drive motors) should offer a little more performance. And thanks to the thru-axle and magnetic plug-in connection of the cable, the rear wheel can now also be removed more easily for servicing. Another major advantage is the new control element on the top tube, which — compared to its predecessor — now allows you to switch between riding modes much more intuitively.

Apart from the electric drive, the new models rely on their proven concept: Arthur and Antonia offer the classic Schindelhauer aesthetic with polished components and a sporty look. Emil and Emilia, on the other hand, are urban all-rounders that offer a particularly practical feature thanks to the permanently mounted front carrier. In addition to the belt drive from Gates, the bikes are also equipped with the Pinion bottom bracket gearbox, and those interested can choose between the 6 and 9-speed versions. However, this is still the mechanical version of the gearbox; the electric Pinion Smart.Shift gearbox is not yet available. For purists, a single-speed version of the Arthut is also available without any gears at all.
