Rakede Boost: Affordable singlespeed e-bike with belt drive from Bonvelo

Inexpensive singlespeed bikes are, so to speak, the trademark of Bonvelo — after all, the complete range of the Hamburg company consists of entrance bikes and starts at just over 350 euros. The first electrified offshoot of these models, the Rakede Boost, is brand new.

The electric drive system is barely visible, because also in this case, the well-known formula of a compact hub motor in the rear wheel and an almost invisible battery in the down tube is used. The motor provides typical pedelec-typical 250 watts continuous power at 40 Nm torque, the permanently installed battery has a capacity of 252 Wh.

But the real differences with this type of e-bike are actually the motor control and operation: Unfortunately, the Bonvelo does not have a torque sensor, which provides the power as needed and thus ensures a natural riding experience. Instead, 5 fixed support modes are offered, each of which delivers more and more power from the motor. To control the modes, the Rakede Boost has a quite large display on the handlebars which shows the battery capacity and the speed. Certainly functional, but not very elegant and modern — but if you know the Bosch Purion display, you should be able to find your way around right away 😉 By the way, if you’re looking for an app for further settings or updates, you won’t find one — almost surprisingly nowadays.

A positive aspect is the use of the low-maintenance, clean and quiet Gates carbon belt drive, which is perfect for such a bike. It is also nice that you use disc brakes — even if only mechanical models from Tektro. One would hardly expect great riding comfort from such a sporty model, accordingly the WTB Riddler tyres are quite narrow with 37 mm width.

The Rakede Boost is priced at 1,859 Euros, with an optional Plus Package available for an additional 200 Euros. This includes a complete light system with the new Lightskin handlebars and the corresponding seat post as well as the Brooks Cambium All Weather saddle. The bike is available in two frame sizes, each in polished aluminium or black.

All further information about the Singlespeed-Bikes and the Rakede Boost can be found on the website of Bonvelo.
