Decathlon already caused a stir with the BTWIN LD 920E urban e-bike, which is exclusively equipped with the innovative Owuru drive and combines a powerful mid-motor with an automatic gearbox. This means you no longer have to worry about shifting gears: once the desired cadence has been set, the e-drive does the rest all by itself. Our first impressions of the LD 920E has already shown that the system is also convincing in everyday use.
Now the French are going one step further and launching another bike with this innovative drive concept. This time under its own Rockrider brand, which offers bikes that are more suitable for off-road use. Consequently, the new Rockrider E-ACTV 900 is equipped with a suspension fork and more robust tyres. The latter have a width of 47 mm, while the Suntour NEX suspension fork offers a suspension travel of 63 mm. Otherwise, the bike is equipped with components suitable for everyday use and offers a permanently installed lighting system, mudguards and a sturdy rack. It is compatible with the MIK click system and designed for loads of up to 27 kg. Equipped in this way, the bike has what it takes to be a real all-rounder!
While the aforementioned LD920 E has a clean cockpit with an integrated display, the Rockrider E-ACTV 900 has a conventional stem, which can be adjusted in height. The display is mounted separately in the centre of the handlebars, but also offers a USB C charging port for smartphones. However, there are no new features in the drive, which also offers a torque of 65 Nm in the Rockrider E-ACTV 900 and is supplied by the removable battery with an impressive 694 Wh capacity.
At a weight of 27 kg, the new Rockrider E-ACTV 900 is definitely no lightweight, which is hardly surprising given the equipment and the large battery. What is surprising, however, is the fair price, as the bike will be available for just 2,699 euros. Decathlon offers two frame shapes: the HF with a high top tube and the LF with a step-through comfort frame, each in three frame sizes. The new models will soon be listed on the Decathlon website and can then be ordered directly there.
The bike extends the E-ACTV model range upwards, following the recent launch of the E-ACTV 500 HF for under 2,000 euros — we reported on it in this article.
