Back in 2020, Canyon released the iconic Grail:ON – the first gravel bike from the brand with an electric drive, which was powered by the powerful but relatively heavy Bosch Performance Line CX motor. With the new Performance Line SX, Bosch now offers a more compact and lighter drive unit, which now serves as the basis for the successor of the Grail:ON: the new Grizl:ON is here!

Lightweight electric gravel bike with integrated lighting system …

At the heart of the new Griz:ON bikes is its carbon frame, which is designed for the compact Bosch drive system: the mid-drive motor delivers 55 Nm of torque and is powered by a compact 400 Wh battery, which is firmly integrated into the frame. This means that it cannot be removed for charging, but Bosch’s optional PowerMore 250 range extender can be connected easily. A compact additional battery that resembles a water bottle and offers a further 250 Wh of capacity. And don’t worry: the Grizl:ON has another mount on the frame for a “real” water bottle!

Also integrated into the frame are two rear lights, which are positioned above the axle on the rear wheel. Developed together with the lighting experts from Lupine, these rear lights shine on both sides of the rear triangle and also comply with the German traffic regulations (StVZO). It is therefore hardly surprising that a front light from Lupine is also installed: the SL Nano is located under the handlebars and, despite its tiny housing, provides up to 1000 lumens and 140 lux light output!

… and commuter equipment

The position of the rear lights is also an advantage when the Grizl:ON is used with a rear rack: Canyon offers a compatible model with a 15 kg load capacity that has mounting points for the Ortlieb QL3.1 system. Thanks to their position, the rear lights cannot be covered by panniers and are also independent from mudguards — as the Grizl:ON is also designed to be fitted with mudguards. With this equipment, the Grizl:ON becomes a sporty commuter bike that is equipped for everyday use!

Additional utility is provided by the Fidlock QuickLoader system, which allows a suitable bag to be mounted in the frame triangle. Thanks to the magnetic attachment, this is done in no time at all, and the bag can be removed just as easily.

Variants of the Grizl:ON

Canyon is offering the Grizl:ON in a total of four versions for the launch. The lighting system is always installed, and the electric drive with Bosch Performance Line SX motor, 400 Wh battery and the System Controller in the top tube is identical in each case.

All models also feature a Rock Shox Rudy XPLR suspension fork with 40 mm travel at the front, which, together with the wide tires, should ensure the highest possible riding comfort and traction even on loose surfaces.
