Full-suspension cargo bike: the APV Concept from Lemmo

Lemmo is causing a stir today with an exciting new cargo bike concept! So far, the start-up is best known for its first model One: an extraordinary urban e-bike that offers many smart features. We had already tested the bike here, and the revised MK2 version has since been launched on the market. However, the APV Concept is now going in a completely different direction, demonstrating Lemmo’s definition of a practical and stylish cargo bike. APV stands for All Purpose Vehicle, which is quite the — because the bike is intended to be suitable for a particularly wide range of applications thanks to its many possible uses.

Longtail cargo bike: this is what the new Lemmo APV should look like

In terms of its design, the APV is a typical longtail cargo bike with the main load-carrying area behind the saddle. While the 26″ front wheel is slightly larger, the compact 20″ rear wheel ensures a low center of gravity. The frame itself is made of aluminum and houses a battery with a powerful 960 Wh capacity, which is apparently quite easy to remove. As with the Lemmo One, the motor is a hub motor in the rear wheel with a torque of over 60 Nm. Although this is rather unusual for cargo bikes, it can work very well — as already demonstrated by Decathlon’s affordable R500E cargo bike.

In addition to a suspension fork at the front with 60 mm travel, the APV will also be equipped with suspension for the rear wheel, which also offers 60 mm travel. This is a real innovation, as there is hardly any other cargo bike with rear wheel suspension. What is particularly interesting is that the rear wheel suspension is decoupled from the pannier rack. Kids in child seats benefit from the suspension comfort as well as other cargo, which is shaken less!

Lemmo specifies 200 kg as the permissible total weight, which is the sum of the weight of the bike, rider and luggage. However, the weight of the APV itself is not yet specified. Further details are also not yet specified, as the bike is still a concept. Nevertheless, pre-sales are set to start shortly, but the Lemmo APV itself will not be available until early 2025.
