With its new Pathlite:ON SL models, Canyon is expanding its line-up of all-round e-bikes with new and — compared to Canyon’s existing Pathlite:ON SUV bikes — significantly lighter models. The key component for this is the new Bosch SX motor, which not only offers a compact design but is also lightweight. Together with the all-new 400 Wh battery, the drive system weighs just around 4 kg. Despite this, the motor has a decent torque of 55 Nm and can even offer up to 600 watts of power under load.
It is also worth mentioning that Canyon has installed the battery so that it can be removed from the bike for charging. If you want to go on a long tour, you can also connect Bosch’s PowerMore 250 range extender as an option. A compact additional battery that resembles a water bottle and offers a further 250 Wh of capacity.
Super affordable: Pathlite:ON 6 SL and 8 SL
The new Pathlite:ON SL model range includes two variants with commuter equipment. That means that mudguards, an integrated lighting system and a rear rack are also on board. Incidentally, the latter is explicitly approved for use with a child seat and is compatible with the MIK system. And while we’re on the subject of transport options: an adapter for Croozer trailers is also available!
The hydraulic disc brakes are from Shimano’s MT200 series and a Suntour NCX D Air suspension fork with 63 mm travel is installed for more comfort. The stem is height-adjustable and can therefore be adapted to the desired riding position.
Apart from that, both bikes differ in these features:
- The Canyon Pathlite:ON 4 SL comes with a Shimano Cues 10-speed derailleur, suspension seatpost and Iridium 40 lux headlight.
- The Canyon Pathlite:ON 6 SL comes with a Shimano Deore XT 12-speed derailleur, a dropper seatpost and Supernova mini 2 Pro headlight with high beam.
The weight of both bikes is just over 21 kg, which is quite good considering the complete equipment! The prices are just as good: at € 2,699 for the Pathlite:ON 6 SL and € 2,999 for the Pathlite:ON 8 SL, you get quite a lot of bike for your money, especially as the new SX drive from Bosch has so far almost only been found in significantly more expensive bikes!
Super light: the Pathlite:ON 8 SL
The third model — the Canyon Pathlite:ON 8 SL, which is fully designed for a light weight — is clearly different. This is why there are no mudguards, pannier rack or lighting system and the suspension fork has also been dispensed with. Instead, a lightweight carbon fork is fitted (with attachment points for small panniers). The seat post is also made from this lightweight material and can even absorb slight bumps of up to 20 mm with its flex. The stem on this model is not adjustable and the brakes are from Magura, but the gears are also Shimano Deore XT with 12 gears.
The result of this weight reduction can be seen impressively on the scales: at 17.2 kg, the Pathlite:ON 8 SL is a whole 4 kg lighter than its two sister models, but at 3,699 euros it is also considerably more expensive.
Theft protection thanks to the ConnectModule
As a bonus, the two more expensive models 6 and 8 are even equipped with the Bosch ConnectModule: This enables a motion-activated theft alarm and GPS tracking via the app if your bike is moved while locked.
In addition to the step-over models with a high top tube, the new SL bikes are also available in a mid-step version with a slightly lowered top tube. All frame shapes are available in three sizes, and there is also a wide choice of colors: Chalk, Tundra Green and Lake Blue are available for the step-over models, while Chalk, Lake Blue and Garnet Red are available for the mid-step frame shape. The choice is only easier with the super-light Pathlite:ON 8 SL: the only color available here is Ivory White. All new Pathlite:ON SL bikes are available directly at Canyon in their online store.
