Just last February, Tenways unveiled its first compact bike, the CGO Compact, marking its entry into a new market segment. The model featured a rear hub motor and a low-maintenance single-speed drive with a toothed belt, and was clearly aimed at urban users with a focus on simplicity. Now, the new Tenways AGO Compact Performance follows as a further variant, which stands out noticeably in terms of technology and design and is also positioned slightly above the familiar models in terms of price.

The key difference lies in the drive system. Whilst Tenways has previously relied mainly on its own solutions or components from Bafang, the AGO Compact Performance is the first model to feature a Bosch motor. This marks a new chapter for the manufacturer and positions the compact bike more firmly in the premium segment. The mid-drive motor is complemented by a hub gear system, which significantly broadens the range of uses compared to the original model.
Compact design for everyday urban life
The new performance version has also been redesigned in terms of its frame. The design appears more streamlined and follows a clean, modern aesthetic, without compromising on the practical features of a compact bike. According to the manufacturer, it has been developed specifically for everyday urban use and offers a combination of practicality and ease of use.
On a closer look, the design proves to be well thought out: a Speedlifter stem from BySchulz allows the handlebars to be rotated 90 degrees in a matter of seconds, making it easier to store the bike in a space-saving manner. Combined with the equally foldable pedals and an integrated carrying handle, the bike is designed to be particularly easy to transport and store in a space-saving manner. Furthermore, an adjustable head tube, together with the low step-through, ensures that the bike can be adapted to different body sizes and riding styles, enabling an ergonomic riding position.

The AGO Compact Performance is also designed to show off its strengths in city traffic. According to the manufacturer, the fitted 20-inch tyres, which are 60 mm wide, offer a balanced combination of compactness and stability. This is intended to deliver agile handling that ensures both comfort and control, particularly in dense urban environments.
In addition to the wide tyres, the suspension seat post also ensures extra comfort for everyday use. The integrated lighting system is designed to ensure good visibility on the road, whilst the hydraulic disc brakes provide reliable stopping power in all weather conditions. The MIK HD rack, fitted as standard, allows accessories such as child seats, baskets or bags to be attached with a single click. The luggage rack has a load capacity of up to 27 kg, whilst the bike itself weighs 26 kg. Tenways states the maximum permissible weight as 145 kg.
Bosch drive system as a key upgrade
However, the biggest changes clearly concern the drive system. At its heart is the Bosch Performance Line motor, delivering 75 Nm of torque, which, together with the removable 545 Wh battery, is designed to provide powerful and smooth assistance. According to the manufacturer, ranges of up to 100 kilometres are possible, depending on usage and conditions. A colour display and intuitive controls are designed to make operation easier, whilst sensors and a controller ensure responsive power delivery.

Another major advantage of the Bosch system is said to be its now extensive app connectivity. The compact Purion 200 colour display, combined with intuitive controls, is designed to clearly show all key riding data and system information, making it easy to monitor these whilst riding. The app also allows users to make numerous customisations to the system.
The system is complemented by the tried-and-tested Shimano Nexus 5-speed hub gear, which has been specially developed for use on e-bikes. It is designed to offer reliable and smooth gear changes as well as a long service life. In combination with the mid-drive motor, this ensures the right gear ratio is available both at higher speeds and on inclines.
Tenways also uses a Gates CDX carbon belt for the drivetrain. This belt is particularly quiet, low-maintenance and durable. This eliminates the need for routine maintenance tasks such as lubrication or frequent readjustment, which is likely to be a clear advantage, particularly in everyday use.
