World Design Capital 2026: Brompton P Line turns into art on two wheels

As part of the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026, Brompton and the WDC 2026 are producing a special edition of the brand-new P Line – we recently reported here on the innovations of this lightweight folding bike. The iconic folding frame serves as a mobile design canvas, which has been reinterpreted as part of an open call. From all the entries, a jury selected three winners, with first place going to Swedish artist Andreas Samuelsson.

Winning design with a striking look

Samuelsson works in a minimalist, poetic and graphic visual language. His work has been featured internationally in publications such as The New York TimesDer SpiegelLa Repubblica and Forbes, as well as for brands including Nike, Apple, Volvo, Aesop and Kiehl’s. His approach centres on line, surface and form. Taking the circle as his basic form, he develops clear visual worlds through condensation and reduction, which deliberately appear simple whilst remaining ambiguous.

The award-winning design will be produced as a limited-edition special edition. All bikes are manufactured at the Brompton factory in London. Production takes place entirely on-site and independently of production sites in other regions – “Made in London” is a clear commitment to local craftsmanship, quality and controlled production.

The bikes will be unveiled for the first time at the Open-Design Week Frankfurt RheinMain in Frankfurt from 5 June 2026 and will be on display at the Hub during the Museumsuferfest.

Creative perspectives on urban mobility

Chris Willingham, Chief Marketing Officer at Brompton, said of the partnership: “This collaboration embodies all the core values that Brompton stands for. We are a company with a 51-year history, founded on innovative design. Our mission is to create urban freedom for a happier life.” Commenting on the role of the project, he adds: “We are delighted to be part of an initiative that gives a new generation of designers the opportunity to use our product as a canvas for their ideas. Our long-term brand positioning – ‘Life Unfolded’ – is all about showcasing the freedom that a Brompton bike enables.”

The partnership embodies Brompton’s core values: design, urban mobility and cultural relevance. For Brompton, the collaboration with the World Design Community Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 provides the ideal platform for showcasing creative perspectives on urban mobility.
