We’ve already tested Texlock’s textile bike locks extensively, but one particularly interesting model was still missing: the Texlock Orbit. It’s exciting because it’s the closest thing to a classic chain lock—one of the most popular types of locks ever. This makes the question of how this textile interpretation of a classic performs in everyday use all the more interesting.

Basically, they remain true to the textile covering—the core of the Texlock brand. The multi-braided material is also available in single colors, but it really comes into its own in multicolored versions. In our test, we had the current limited edition Stardust, a striking yet elegant combination of black and yellow-green.
Easy to handle, gentle on your bike
Even more important than the appearance is, of course, the handling: the textile lock can be wrapped extremely flexibly, even in tight spaces—for example, around the seat post or directly on the frame. And the soft, smooth textile surface reliably protects paintwork and components from scratches. What’s more, nothing rattles while you’re riding. These are all small details, but they make a surprisingly big difference in everyday life!
The weight is also pleasing: our 120-centimeter test lock weighed 1,250 grams, making it pleasantly light for a lock in this security class. This also contributes to the fact that you actually enjoy carrying it around with you every day instead of leaving it at home for convenience.

In terms of security, the Orbit offers an ART*2-certified security level. ART is an independent Dutch testing organization whose classification is recognized by many insurance companies. A lock with two stars is considered high-quality basic protection against bicycle theft and meets the requirements of numerous insurers. The good thing about this certification is that it is manufacturer-independent, allowing a wide variety of locks to be compared.
Soft shell, hard core
Technically, Texlock relies on a hardened steel core combined with a durable textile coating and a lock-picking-proof locking cylinder. The lock body is robust and has the advantage that no key needs to be inserted to lock it. However, with a diameter of a good four centimeters, the body is quite bulky. In testing, it did not fit between the spokes of small 20-inch wheels, but this is not an issue with standard wheel sizes.

The Orbit is currently available in seven colors: Acid Orange, Onyx Black, Chateau Red, Morpho Blue, Wild Hemp, Electric Gray, and the limited edition Stardust. It is available in lengths of 100, 120, or 160 centimeters, with the longest version available exclusively in black. This means that the lock can be used for both short city stops and for securing larger objects without any problems.
Conclusion
The Texlock Orbit combines the well-known Texlock qualities in a handy, easy-to-use lock. It is a product that is a pleasure to use and does not cause any hassle in everyday life. Comfort, protection for the frame, and solid security come together to form a harmonious overall package. The only real downside is the price, because with entry-level prices starting at €149, the Orbit is clearly in the premium segment.
