Simply charge via USB-C: the new Ampler Nova e-bikes make it easy!

Just recently, we took a close look at the question of whether there should finally be a standardised charging standard for e-bikes in this article. Our conclusion: USB-C reaches its limits for large batteries with high charging currents. But for more compact batteries and medium charging capacities, the technology is absolutely within the realms of feasibility—and above all: familiar. It is therefore all the more pleasing that Ampler is now taking exactly this step with the new Nova series and is one of the first manufacturers to use USB-C as a charging connection for e-bikes.

Cyclingworld 2025 Urban Bike News Highlights Ampler Nova USB C
At Cyclingword Europe, we were able to see the bikes with the USB-C connection in detail.

With the new connection, the Nova bikes can be conveniently charged with existing USB-C chargers—from a laptop, for example. A charging time of 2.5 hours is sufficient for everyday use, while a full charge takes around 3.5 hours. This is not only practical, but also a real benefit for the environment: in Europe alone, around 11,000 tonnes of electronic waste are generated every year by unused chargers. A standardised connection can help to save resources and make new devices superfluous.

Simple design meets modern technology

But what else is behind the new Nova bikes? At first glance, they look very similar to the previous Ampler models—no wonder, as the design and drive system remain essentially unchanged. A compact hub motor continues to work in the rear wheel, which is powered by a permanently integrated 336 Wh battery. Control is via a discreet button below the top tube, while the integrated display at the top shows the riding mode and battery status.

All Nova bikes come with full everyday equipment: mudguards, integrated light, pannier rack—everything included. They are also available with both diamond and step-through frames in various sizes. Thanks to the standard-compliant design, accessories such as child seats or trailers can be easily attached.

Two variants: Nova and Nova Pro

  • With the Nova, Ampler is launching a real all-round bike on the market—perfect for everyday urban use. Wide 27.5-inch tyres and a 9-speed MicroSHIFT drivetrain ensure comfort and safety with a relaxed, upright riding position. The Nova models combine simplicity, style and practicality – ideal for anyone who wants to glide effortlessly through the city.
  • The Nova Pro is a little sportier: with 28-inch wheels, a more active riding position and a choice of single-speed with Gates carbon belt drive or 10-speed Shimano Deore derailleur gears, it is aimed at anyone who wants more—more distance, more power, more dynamism. An interesting detail: the slightly flexing handlebars help to cushion small bumps on the road—a plus in riding comfort.’

A makeover with perspective

In the long run, the new Nova series will replace the previous Stellar, Stout, Luna and Axel models. Only the particularly light and sporty Curt model will remain available—although a successor with USB-C is also planned for the end of the year.

At the moment, you have a choice: the tried-and-tested models are still available at a special price, while the new Nova bikes start from 2,990 euros (Nova) or 3,490 euros (Nova Pro).

The extensive colour palette of the Nova series can also help you decide: the regular Nova is available in the colours Rock Green, Glacier, Latte White, Pistachio and Soft Plum. The Nova Pro, on the other hand, is available in the colours Matte Black, Champagne, Ruby Red and Graphite.

Conclusion

With its new Nova series, Ampler is not only launching two sophisticated e-bikes that are suitable for everyday use, but is also setting an important example for more sustainability and user-friendliness in the e-bike sector with the USB-C charging connection. A step in the right direction—both technically and ecologically.
