With its new Oxytocin, Desiknio is launching an e-bike with a true step-through frame – a first for the Spanish company, which previously offered only bikes with diamond and trapezoidal frames. One of the advantages of this step-through frame is that it’s easier to get on and off the bike, which is particularly useful in city traffic with lots of stops and traffic lights.
Maintenance-free drive with belt drive
Another new feature is the current Mahle X30 hub motor, previously the predecessor X35 was used. With its 45 Nm of torque, it provides decent support for urban use. However, Desiknio cannot use the torque sensor option introduced with the X30 — as the Pinion gearbox is already installed in its place in the bottom bracket. With its 9 gears, this C1.9 gearbox offers a very wide range of 568% and is also very low-maintenance and durable. The same applies to the Gates Carbon Drive belt drive, which is used instead of a conventional bicycle chain. The iX2 battery with a capacity of 237 Wh is permanently installed in the down tube, which unfortunately cannot be removed for charging — but this is typical of all e-bikes with the Mahle system. If you want, you can extend the range with the optional range extender and its 171 Wh capacity.
Light weight despite an extensive equipment
In terms of design, the Spaniards remain true to their minimalist design language, which means that the Oxytocin also boasts pleasantly clean lines. Cables and lines on the cockpit are routed directly into the stem and thus also contribute to the clean look of the bike. Despite all this, the equipment is extensive, offering mudguards, a high-quality Supernova lighting system and even a front carrier. The saddle and handlebar grips are from the Brooks range, while the rather narrow 35 mm tires are from Pirelli. The weight of the bike is remarkable, as it is very light at around 16 kg.
In addition to the color variant in Purple Love with black components, the Desiknio Oxytocin is also available in classic Black Harmony. In this case, the components are polished silver and the tires have a brown sidewall. With its one-size-fits-all design, the frame is suitable for riders up to 175 cm tall and is priced at 4,795 euros.
