We recently featured the new Moustache J in detail here: a versatile bike with full suspension that also boasts sustainable frame production. The jury of the prestigious German Design Award also recognized the J for its outstanding concept and unique design, highlighting in particular the manufacturing process in France.
The special thing about it is that the frame of the J is cast from aluminum and consists of only two parts. The reason for this unusual design is Moustache’s desire to produce the J as sustainably as possible while keeping transportation distances to a minimum. This is possible with new cast parts, which are produced near Marseille in the south of France. Further processing of the frame takes place in the Jura and Alsace, and the bike is then assembled directly at Moustache in Thaon-les-Vosges. This means that the frame of the J is produced 100% in France — a special feature, as the majority of all bicycle frames are still produced in Far East and then have to travel long distances to reach us, with all their disadvantages.
For urban use, Moustache offers the J. on trim, which is equipped with the Enviolo TR continuously variable transmission with a Gates belt drive. The puncture-proof 27.5 x 2.4 inch Super Moto-X tires are from Schwalbe. The SR Suntour Mobie 25 LOR suspension fork offers 100 mm travel at the front and 115 mm at the rear, while the hydraulic brake system is equipped with 180 mm brake discs at the front and 160 mm at the rear.
The motor, controller and battery are from Bosch with the regular Performance Line drive from the Smart System. At 75 Nm, it offers a very high torque, but is quieter than the even more powerful CX motor from Bosch, for example. The LED remote and the new Kiox 500 display in the middle of the handlebars are used to control the drive, while the removable battery offers up to 625 Wh capacity and can be optionally extended with the equally new range extender and its 250 Wh.
