Bumbinos is a new accessory that fills a gap often found on many children’s bikes: mudguards – and brings a whole lot of fun along with it! Behind the new brand are the creators of the Swedish brand Ass Savers, which many may recognise from the road cycling and mountain biking scene. They made a name there with their clever, quick-fit mudguards – minimalist, functional and surprisingly effective. For Bumbinos, they are now applying this expertise to a younger target audience, combining functionality with a clearly playful approach.

Well thought-out and child-friendly – the idea behind Bumbinos
But Bumbinos is more than just a scaled-down version of existing products. The brand has been developed over several years and is strongly influenced by the founders’ own experiences as parents. The focus is on front and rear mudguards, which are sold as a set known as ‘Splash Packs’. The design is deliberately kept simple: lightweight materials, quick assembly, and easy handling. At the same time, Bumbinos features eye-catching, child-friendly designs that integrate the bike more closely into the world of play.

The themed collections cover a wide range of topics: from animals and nature to space, motor racing and sweets – basically everything that interests children and teenagers 😉 The sets also come with matching stickers, which kids can use to personalise their bikes.
Bumbinos are manufactured entirely in Sweden and are available in two sizes – for 14–16-inch bikes (approx. 3 to 6 years) and 18–20-inch bikes (approx. 6 to 9 years). To start with, there are a total of 12 designs to choose from, each including a sticker sheet for further personalisation. The Splash Packs are priced at around 35 euros, whilst individual mudguard elements are available as ‘Extra Blades’ to change the look, starting at around 19 euros.
First impressions: putting the Bumbinos to the test
We’ve already had the chance to test the Bumbinos – and our first impression is clear: the designs are a real hit! Colourful, eye-catching, yet they go well with many children’s bikes. That’s exactly what ensures that the mudguards don’t look out of place, but rather like a deliberate addition to the bike.

There’s nothing to complain about when it comes to the material either. The plastic is flexible enough not to give way straight away in everyday use, yet feels sturdy and high-quality. The fitting? Refreshingly straightforward: at the front, the mudguard is simply attached to the down tube with two Velcro straps, whilst at the rear a bracket with elastic straps ensures a secure hold. No tools are required at all, and it’s a straightforward process – the mudguards are fitted in a few simple steps and sit securely.

We tested the smaller version for 14–16″ wheels on a Woom 3 with 16-inch wheels – everything fitted perfectly and the installation was completed in no time at all. As we didn’t have a suitable bike, we had to fit the larger version (actually designed for 18–20‘ bikes) to a 24’ bike. It worked, albeit just about, but it also showed that the manufacturer’s recommendation makes sense, particularly to ensure the correct alignment and function of the rear mudguard.

The most important question when out and about: do they keep the Bumbinos dry? In short: yes. They passed our splash test with ease and kept the spray back well. We were particularly impressed by the fact that, despite its width, the front mudguard doesn’t come into contact with your legs whilst riding. It therefore offers sufficient protection against spray without restricting your freedom of movement.

Perhaps the biggest advantage, however, is their flexibility. Quick to put on, quick to take off – this makes the Bumbinos perfect for changeable weather. That said: in our case, the two testers didn’t want to take the Bumbinos off at all. They looked too good; they had suddenly become such an integral part of the bike. The stickers were also a big hit – the designers have clearly understood exactly what children like.

Conclusion
The Bumbinos transforms a rather unremarkable accessory into something that children really love. Especially on bikes that don’t come with mudguards, it’s a really useful addition for wet days. At the same time, it doesn’t feel like a necessary evil, but rather an upgrade that you’re happy to use. The quality is spot on, the design is well thought-out and it’s great fun. Combined with the fair price, this results in a solution that’s not only practical but simply a joy to use – and so perhaps achieves exactly what it’s meant to: getting children on their bikes more often – whatever the weather!
The Splash Packs are available for 35 euros directly from the Bumbinos online shop, where individual mudguard panels can also be purchased separately – for example, if you fancy a new look. These cost around 19 euros and make it easy to change the design without having to buy a whole new set.
