Although Canyon was not officially represented with its own stand at Eurobike this year, there was still a real new product to discover! At the stand of Gates, manufacturer of belt drives, we were able to take a first look at the upcoming urban bike from the Koblenz-based brand: the Canyon Citylite.
There is no official information yet, but the production-ready exhibition model already revealed some exciting details that point to a well thought-out concept for everyday use.

Unsurprisingly, the Gates belt drive is the first thing that comes to mind when the bike is shown at the belt specialist’s stand 😉 The absence of a chain brings the usual advantages: less maintenance, no dirt from oil or grease and a quiet noise — which is definitely an advantage in everyday use.
The frame design also catches the eye. The top tube has a slight kink at the front, which makes for a comparatively high cockpit. The stem itself is also quite high and integrates a smartphone holder from SP Connect. The cables also disappear directly into the stem, which makes for a tidy look.
The same applies to the headlight, which is also integrated into the handlebars – and which could possibly be the new Starstream Mini from Supernova. However, there is no official confirmation of this. The brake system, which bears Canyon branding, is also interesting. Whether these are in-house developments or merely re-labelled components remains unclear.

The equipment also includes a hub dynamo in the front wheel, a Shimano Nexus hub gear in the rear wheel, mudguards, a rear rack with integrated rear light and a frame lock. Two black covers can also be seen on the head tube, under which there may be mounting points for additional accessories – such as a front pannier rack.

Whether there will also be an e-bike version in addition to this analogue version is still completely unclear. However, a Citylite:ONfly with an integrated battery and hub motor is certainly conceivable.
Regardless of the type of drive, the concept should be very suitable for commuting or relaxed rides through the city centre. At first glance, the Canyon Citylite appears to be suitable for everyday use. Less sporty, but more practical — exactly what is often required in city traffic. We don’t yet know when the new bike will be officially launched on the market. But it shouldn’t be too much longer, so stay tuned!
