At the last Eurobike, Canyon already gave us a first glimpse of their new urban bike — and in our article we already wondered whether an electric version would follow. Now we know for sure, because today Canyon is unveiling the Citylite:ON e-bike alongside the new Citylite!

Ready for urban use: the equipment of the Citylite models
With both models, Canyon wants to offer an everyday all-rounder for urban riding — whether for errands, the way to work, the weekly shop, the way to school or relaxed rides. This is evident from the shape of the frame: The ST (step-through) version with its low step-through and curved frame is almost reminiscent of classic Dutch bikes. And the diamond frame model also features a characteristic bend in the top tube, which should enable a confident stand — even for smaller riders. Because with the Citylite, Canyon follows the ‘one size fits all’ principle. Accordingly, both frame shapes are each available in just one size, which should cover a range from 155 cm to 195 cm in height.

Perfect for everyday use in the city, the Citylite models are equipped with mudguards and an integrated lighting system with the Supernova Starstream Mini front light in the handlebars and an M15 rear light in the pannier rack with brake light function. Thanks to an SPC+ mount in the stem, the smartphone can be easily attached to the bike. The bikes also have a sturdy pannier rack that can be loaded with up to 27 kg and is compatible with the QL3.1 and MIK HD system. This means that a wide variety of baskets, crates or child seats can be mounted and removed with a single click. Canyon also offers a trailer hitch for loads of up to 60 kg and the bikes can be fitted with an optional front carrier that offers a load capacity of up to 10 kg.

For maximum comfort despite the lack of active suspension, Canyon has fitted wide Maxxis DTR-1 tyres in size 650×47, a Selle Royal Essenza saddle and ergonomic grips to the Citylite. Vibrations are to be dampened by the carbon fork, the frame itself is made of aluminium on all bikes and they also have a frame lock fitted. In terms of colours, you can choose between grey Moonstone, Aurora Green and black.
The analogue Canyon Citylite in detail
In the ‘analogue’ version without e-drive, the Citylite is equipped with Shimano Nexus 8-speed hub gears and the clean, low-maintenance Gates CDN belt drive. The lighting system is powered by a Shimano hub dynamo on the front wheel. The weight of both frame shapes is just under 16 kg (step-over: 15.94 kg; step-through: 15.88 kg) and the price is 1,499 euros.

The electric Citylite with the latest Bosch motor
All electric ON variants of the Citylite are equipped with the brand new Bosch Performance Line motor with 75 Nm torque and 600 W power. Operation is via the compact Bosch Purion 200 display with push-assist and here, too, the low-maintenance Gates CDC belt drive is combined with a Shimano hub gear — here with the Nexus 5-speed, which is specially designed for the high power of the motor.

Interesting: Canyon uses the relatively small 400 Wh battery from Bosch, but it can be removed for charging. This is certainly one of the reasons why the weight of the Citylite:ON remains within reasonable limits at just over 21kg (Step-Over: 22.1kg; Step-Through: 21.6kg). Bosch’s PowerMore range extender with 250 Wh can also be used as an option.
Exclusively on the step-through model, there is also a tool-free adjustable Vario seat post, which allows the seat height to be adjusted at the touch of a button. The new Citylite:ON bikes are priced at 2,999 euros and are available now.
