Kalkhoff introduced a completely redesigned 5 series of bikes this year, including the Entice 5+ Advance Belt, which features all-road equipment and a comfortable drive system. This makes it suitable for both city riding and tours off the beaten track. Is it a win-win situation or a compromise? Our review will show you!
Design
Strong in appearance, clear in expression – the Entice 5+ Advance Belt reveals its characteristics immediately. The frame, with its striking, voluminous tubes, gives the bike a powerful presence, which is further emphasised by solid attachments such as the wide stem, the sturdy rear rack and the robust mudguards. Of course, the powerful mid-drive motor and the large battery in the low step-through frame are also responsible for this look.

Despite its robust construction, the bike also has an elegant and tidy appearance: the cables disappear directly into the stem, which looks particularly clean thanks to its cover. The motor and battery are also harmoniously integrated and perfectly colour-coordinated with the frame. Neatly ground weld seams in the upper area underline the high-quality impression.

The ‘Moonstone Grey’ colourway with a matt finish perfectly matches the bike’s robust and off-road character. Combined with the tyres and brown sidewalls, this creates a sporty, modern adventure look.
Equipment
Based on a new frame platform developed with the new Bosch motor generation in mind, the Entice 5+ features the powerful Performance Line CX (Gen5) with an impressive maximum torque of 90 Nm. The electric drive system is operated via the somewhat clunky but functional LED Remote on the handlebars in conjunction with the Kiox 300 display, which provides all the important riding data and displays it on a bright, two-inch colour screen.

Kalkhoff has taken a unique approach to the drivetrain: instead of using a derailleur gear system, as is common on other all-road bikes, the Entice 5+ Advance Belt features the Enviolo hub gear system in the trekking version. It enables smooth shifting and is complemented by the Gates belt drive. A largely maintenance-free duo for everyday use!

All other features also fulfil the requirements for high everyday usability. The lighting system consists of a Supernova Mini 3 headlight at the front and a rear light from Trelock’s COB line with brake light function, mounted directly on the luggage rack. This is MIK HD-compatible and designed for loads of up to 27 kilograms, which means it is also approved for child seats. And thanks to the adapters supplied, a water bottle or folding lock can also be attached directly to the frame.
The Mobie34 air suspension fork from Suntour, a suspension seat post and 57 mm wide Smart Sam tyres from Schwalbe ensure a comfortable ride. The only thing that would have been nice here would have been the option of lowering the seat post in the form of a dropper post. Ergonomic grips, sturdy mudguards and a side stand round off the comprehensive and robust features.

Although the Entice 5+ Advance Belt weighs in at a considerable 33 kilograms, it also offers an exceptionally high permissible total weight of 170 kilograms. This makes the bike suitable not only for heavy riders, but also for transporting additional loads.
Operation
User-friendly as expected, the Bosch Smart System offers all basic functions as standard. Those who prefer a more personalised experience can use the free eBike Flow app to make extensive adjustments and configure the riding modes according to their own preferences. The central Kiox 300 display can also be used as a navigation device in combination with the app.
Enviolos’ continuously variable transmission is operated intuitively via a rotary switch. A small icon indicates whether the current setting makes pedalling easier or harder, which makes it even easier for beginners in particular to use this gear system.

Particularly impressive is the handling of the battery on the Entice 5+: the charging port is well protected and easily accessible on the top tube, and the battery can be removed upwards in a convenient and stable manner. The battery cover itself impresses with its high-quality workmanship, integrated rubber seals and secure closure. This is a detail that often proves to be a weak point in everyday use on many e-bikes – but here it has been solved in an exemplary manner!
The rack is also suitable for everyday use: thanks to the MIK HD system, baskets, boxes or child seats can be attached and removed just as quickly with a click system. Side panniers can also be attached, and the sturdy rear kickstand ensures a secure standing even when fully loaded.
Riding impressions
Thanks to the low step-through frame (Kalkhoff calls this a ‘wave’ frame), getting on and off the bike is particularly comfortable. The seating position also provides a good overview of traffic and offers a pleasant, relaxed riding experience, even on longer journeys.
This is where the motor proves why it is one of the most powerful in its class: at traffic lights or on steep ramps, the assistance kicks in powerfully and directly – and even with luggage or on hills, the Entice 5+ performs with confidence. Despite its high performance, however, the bike does not ride like a sports machine. Its weight, Enviolo gears and relaxed seating position invite you to glide along at a more leisurely pace.Â

Acoustically, the current generation of the CX motor is significantly quieter than its predecessors, but it is still noticeable under full load. On smooth asphalt, the coarse-tread tyres are also noticeable due to their rolling noise. However, it is precisely this tread that comes into its own on unpaved roads: on gravel, forest trails or field paths, the tyres offer reliable grip and, together with the air suspension fork, ensure a safe, controlled riding experience. The fork responds sensitively and effectively absorbs even minor bumps, while the suspension seat post provides additional comfort.
A bike that stays calm on cobblestones in the city or on gravel off the beaten track – literally, because the high quality of the components and workmanship ensure that nothing rattles, even on rough terrain!

Conclusion
The Kalkhoff Entice 5+ Advance Belt is a powerful, comfortable all-rounder with a clear all-road focus. It combines a powerful motor, large battery and low-maintenance components such as the Enviolo hub and Gates belt in a harmonious overall package. The high-quality workmanship and well-thought-out details speak for its suitability for everyday use and durability.
While the bike’s heavy weight makes it less sporty to ride, its high load capacity and robust features demonstrate a focus on stability and comfort. For riders looking for a reliable, versatile and comfortable e-bike for city, everyday and touring use, the Entice 5+ is a compelling option.
Of course, all this comes at a price: the Entice 5+ Advance Belt in the tested ‘Wave’ version costs 5,699 euros, and the bike is also available with a diamond frame or a trapezoidal frame as an option. All further information can be found directly on the Kalkhoff website.
