The Brompton is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, an event that we have already covered in detail in this article — including a look back at the exciting history of the cult folding bike. The British brand is now crowning the anniversary year with a strictly limited special model: an exclusive bike that celebrates the brand’s long tradition in a special way.

To mark the founding year, Brompton introduces the 1975 Edition. The limited special edition honours five decades of innovation, craftsmanship and the people who made the cult bike possible.

Only 1,975 bikes of this special edition will be produced worldwide. With special design elements, the bike celebrates the heart of Brompton production: the team of frame builders who have been manufacturing every single bike by hand in the London factory for 50 years. Brazing — the hard soldering of the steel tubes — is the core technique that gives every Brompton its stable, durable frame.

What’s special about the 1975 Edition:

  • Thermal fade lacquering: Inspired by the colours created during the crucial soldering process.
  • Brompton Brazer’s Coin: Each edition includes a collectible brass coin with the initials of one of the 52 Brompton frame builders. Each bike bears the mark of its maker.
  • 1975 Edition bottle cage: Practical handlebar cage with adjustable bungee system, suitable for different bottle shapes — the cage stays in place even when folded.
  • 1975 Edition Small Zip Case: 1.5 litre capacity, main compartment with additional pocket and elastic strap, including detachable shoulder strap.
  • 1975 Edition Saddle: Combines classic design with modern technology — carbon base, chromoly rails, integrated carrying handle, 23 % lighter than the standard saddle.
  • Numbered serial plate: Each bike receives a laser-engraved plate with individual number and anniversary branding.

Like every Brompton, the 1975 Edition is also handy to carry when folded

“The Brompton journey began in 1975 in a small workshop in West London. Today, our bikes are at home in cities all over the world,” says Will Butler-Adams, CEO of Brompton. “This anniversary edition is a thank you to our team – the creators and visionaries who have made Brompton an icon.”

The launch of the Brompton 1975 Edition also marks the start of a series of 50th anniversary community rides around the world over the coming months, celebrating the culture and community around Brompton. The bike will be available from 17 September at www.brompton.com, Brompton Stores and selected Brompton retailers. Early Access registration is available at www.brompton.com/sign-up.
